Sunday November 19, the Wells Warriors 10U team headed north for an early morning game against the Baltimore Stars. The Warriors took the ice with Yoan Pinsonneault in the net again. Ben Hearn wasted no time with putting a puck in the net on his first shift for the game at the 12:33 mark. Ben came back and netted a second goal with 2:26 left in the period. And in the final minute of the period, Zach Stone got a fast break to put in his first goal of the season.

The second period started with the Warriors on the power play, James Johns IV scored on the power play just 51 seconds into the period with an assist from Gavin Masaya. Ben Hearn completed his hat trick at 11:02 of the second period. Just to make sure Ben had his hatty, he decided to put another one in 30 seconds later with an assist from Gavin Masaya. James Johns IV put his second of the game with 4:50 left to go in the second. Seconds later Gavin Masaya, put a beautiful shot on goal through a mass of players to score his first of the game. Ayden Amelechkin got into the scoring frenzy by putting his first goal of the season in the net with an assist from Ailsa Ostocitz. The Stars ruined Yoan Pinsonneault’s shot at a shut out by beating him twice in the last 3 minutes of the second period.

The third period started much like the second period with James Johns IV scoring his third goal for his hat trick in the first minute of the period. About 2:30 later Aiden Raymer scored his first goal of the season. Gavin Masaya was moved up from his defense position and scored his second goal at the 6:43 mark. With just about 5 minutes left in the game, Gavin Masaya finished his hat trick with an assist from Aiden Raymer. The game ended with the Warriors 10U team bringing home a 13-2 win.

This weekend the 10U Warriors played 2 games. The first game was against the Georgetown Titians who hosted us at Fort Dupont Ice Arena on Friday November 17th. The Warriors took the ice and and quickly put one up on the scoreboard on a goal by Mateo Concha with an assist from James Johns IV. Georgetown was able to put a shot past Yoan Pinsonneault to tie the game. Ben Hearn on a last minute rush scored to put the Warriors up 2-1 at the ends of the first.

The second period started with James Johns IV sliding a puck past the Titians net minder. Ben Hearn put his second goal of the night in shortly after the 11 minute mark. The Titians put a rush on and a flurry of shots to 4 goals in before Gavin Masaya put a blast in past the Titians goalie. In the final minute of the 2nd period the Titians were able to cap off a 5 goal period to go into the third period leading 6-5.

Due to an issue with time, the third period was cut short and was only a 10 minute period. Yoan Pinsonneault sealed up the goal and stopped every shot in the shortened period. The top line went to work out skating the Titians and with 1:27 left in the game Mateo Concha tied the game up on a wicked shot. The game would end in a 6-6 tie.

On Sunday November 12 the Wells Warriors 12U team welcomed the Georgetown Titans to our home ice. The Warriors took the ice coming off a nice win the week before. Sam Stewart-Ricketts started the scoring in the first period at the 7:08 mark with an assist from Danilo Azcarate. With just 4 seconds left in the 1st period Patrick Johns put one past the Titan net minder with an assist from Vincent MacDonnell-Monohan to put the Warriors up 2-0.

The Titans came out firing in the second period scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes of the period. Sam Stewart-Ricketts answered tying the game up with an assist from Logan Cullins at the 1:30 mark. The third period both goalies stopped almost everything that was sent at them. The Warriors got a late power play as the period was winding down. Annabelle Defosse put the Warriors up with just 1:19 left in the third period with a power play goal. The Warriors played team defense for the rest of the period to bring home their second win in a row.

This morning one of our 14U players Suerken Matsuyama headed up to Hereford High School to compete in the 2017 Maryland State Cross Country Championships. Suerken is a freshman at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt. During the Regional Qualifying round he posted the fastest time for a freshman in the 5K at the meet. We wish him good luck and hope to have him back protecting the blue line soon.

This afternoon the 14U Warriors also joined the 12U Warriors in opening their season at Skate Frederick playing the Frederick Victory Red team. Luka Mariesse playing in his first 14U game scored his first goal of the year at the 4:13 mark even strength with an assist from Divyne Apollon Jr. Frederick would answer back to tie the game in the first period.

The second period started with with Daniel Saathoff scoring his first goal of the season at the 12:22 mark with assists from Chase Williams and George Marcolin. Less than a minute later Brady Amelechkin joined in on the scoring when he put one past the Frederick net minder assisted by Luka Mariesse. A little over a minute later Fredrick would squeak one past Henry Badt. At 2:14 left in the second Daniel Saathoff stepped up and put the biscuit in the basket for the second time of the night. The second period would end with the Warriors up 4-2.

The third period Frederick came out firing putting 18 shots on goal in the period. Henry Badt stood tall in the blue paint but somehow Frederick was able to put two past him. The game ended in a 4-4 tie.
